These bows are made in the same manner as biscuits, but with cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar. These biscuits are great decorated and by themselves, or can also be used with your favorite sausage gravy recipe.
Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, salt and cinnamon in a large bowl.
Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles small crumbs.
Add the egg to the bowl, and just enough milk so the dough leaves the sides of the bowl, approximately 1/2 cup.
Place the dough onto a lightly floured surface.
Briefly and lightly knead the dough approximately 10 turns.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough until it is 1/2″ thick. Using a doughnut cutter, or two cups, cut the dough into doughnut shapes separating the doughnut “holes” and setting aside.
Lightly stretch the dough into a figure 8 and place on an ungreased baking pan along with the doughnut “holes”.
Bake for 10 minutes or until light golden brown.
Brush the bows with the melted butter and sprinkle or roll in the sugar or optional festive sprinkles and tie with a bow.
